Feeling Thankful

It's past thanksgiving, but I have heard and read so many stories lately that just make me incredibly thankful for my small but great family!

Jadyn says the funniest things...

A while ago, I told Jadyn that maybe he would get a robe for Hanukkah. The other morning he was wearing my robe and he said, "Mommy, we have to get a robe at Hanukkah's house." He thinks Hanukkah is a person. Haha.

Today in the shower, Jadyn started laughing hysterically because he was peeing on me. I had to tell him that we don't pee on people because it's gross. He just laughed and said it was funny.

As I think of other funny things, I will post them.

Rollin, Rollin, Rollin

Cameron is 4 months old. He started rolling over on Daddy's birthday (just 2 days before he was 4 months old). He can roll both ways but it is much easier for him to roll from his back to his belly. He is already trying to get his legs under his butt to start crawling. Of course he isn't even close to crawling but he is trying to get the positioning. It won't be too long before he gets it.

He had his doctor's appointment today. He is 16lbs 0.5 oz and 25 1/4 inches. This is the size Jadyn was at 6 months. Cameron has thrush again. The doctor said that thrush is like a weed and if you don't get it completely, it will keep coming back. Otherwise, he is perfect. We are going to start trying cereal soon. I am still nursing him. He doesn't love the bottle but he will take it. He HATES formula! So right now, I have just been pumping at work. My goal was to nurse him for 6 months. So hopefully I will keep this up for 2 more months. He was sleeping through the night until I started work. Because he doesn't love the bottle, he isn't eating as well during the day which means he wants to eat more at night. He also won't take a pacifier so he is using me as his pacifier (and I let him because honestly, it is just easier).

Jadyn had a great time for Halloween! He was a policeman and he loved knocking on the door to say trick or treat. For some reason, Jadyn hasn't been sleeping well at night. I guess I used to be spoiled that he went to bed easy and stayed there until 9 or so. Now, he fights to go to bed and he tries to come into our bed at night. I know we have to be consistent but honestly, sometimes we are just to tired to fight it. Hopefully this is just a short phase!!

Mocha is getting so big. She is about 50 lbs now and very tall. She graduated from her puppy training course and will start the next one at the end of this month. She has been so much better. Of course she is still a puppy with some puppy habits but overall, she is much better. We still need to work on the jumping. She loves to jump on people.

We are lookig forward to the holidays coming up. We hope everyone is doing well!

Back to the grind...

It has been a crazy 3 months since Cameron was born. A quick recap - Latte died and we got a new puppy, both Ivan's grandmother and my grandmother passed away. Cameron had gotten sick and was admitted into the hospital for a few days. Cameron, Jadyn and I have all had a few doctors appointments. We have had a ton of visitors. We have had all of that plus our normal stuff of Ivan working, Jadyn going to school, having a newborn, training a puppy, etc. It has definitely been busy.

Yesterday was my first official day back to work. Thankfully my manager has been great and let me transition back into everything. Next week I will only be working Monday and Friday because Cameron's babysitter will be out of town. As far as the updates go....

Cameron is 3 months old today. It is amazing how time flies. Unofficially he is about 15 lbs. He is such a chunker. Overall he is really a good baby. He prefers to lay down on the floor instead of being in the swing or the bouncer (of course he really prefers to be held). He seems to love noise. He is always calm when he hears the shower running or any white noise like that. He still HATES the car. It has gotten a little better but not great. He is smiling so much and starting to laugh out loud. It is so cute. I am still nursing him. We have started to give him some formula because that is what he will have at the babysitter's. He drank the formula just fine at first but now he is hesitant. We did change to the Costco brand formula so maybe he doesn't like it. A few nights ago he slept through the night. I fed him at about 10:30 and he fell asleep in the swing. I moved him to his room at about 12 and he slept until 6:30. He hasn't slept that well again but he does sleep about 5 hours, eats, and then sleeps another 3 hours or so. Overall, I really can't complain about his sleeping. He is going to be staying at a babysitter's house on Tues, Wed, and Thurs while I am back at work and Ivan is going to have the boys Fridays. In January, Cameron will probably go to the same daycare as Jadyn.

Jadyn is still being a great big brother and loving on Cameron so much. He is going on a cruise with grandma and pop-pops in the beginning of Oct. He is so excited to be going on a plane and on a very big boat.

Mocha is 4 months old. She still acts like a puppy but she is doing so much better. We have been to 2 training classes. They had to cancel 3 in a row but we will be back to class on Monday.

With me going back to work, Ivan and I are just trying to figure out the routine that works for us.

Well I hope everyone is well. Talk to you soon...

Updates

Time is flying!

Cameron is already 5 weeks old! We have his one month appt tomorrow so I will post his "official" stats once I know them. He is growing unbelievable fast! He is already wearing the clothes that Jadyn wore at 3 1/2 months. He has already started to smile on purpose (started on July 31st). It is so cute! He loves to be held. As long as he is being held, he is the happiest baby. He hates his car seat which means he hates the car. He usually cries most of the car ride (no matter how long or short). So, I am getting good use of the baby Bjorn carrier and the Moby wrap. I love the Moby wrap but it takes a few minutes to get it on where the Bjorn takes a second. Talking about crying - this baby can wail! Holy cow, does he have a set of lungs!! We always say that he is our angry little guy! He is also very gassy but not in a fussy way. You can literally feel the gas bubbles go through his system. Thank goodness for Mylicon! Anyway, Cameron is so cute and makes us so happy! I absolutely adore my littlest guy!

Jadyn is 2 1/2 years old. He is in the process of potty training. He has some great days and some really hard days! (Today has been a great day!). He absolutely loves his big boy undies. While I am on maternity leave, he is going to school 3 days a week. He just loves school and playing with his friends. He is learning so much! All the teachers love him at school and say he is so well behaved. He usually is but he is also 2 and has many 2 year old moments with mommy (i.e. whining, not listening, throws a fit, doesn't share, etc). Jadyn is a GREAT big brother! He loves Cameron so much. He always wants to hug him and kiss him. He likes to hold him on the couch or hold his hand when we are in the car. It's quite amazing that if Cameron is crying, Jadyn can usually calm him down. Overall, Jadyn is so sweet and affectionate. I love how he likes to hug and kiss me. I love (usually) the things that come out of his mouth. He can be so funny and he knows it! It's amazing to watch him grow and learn!

Mocha is 8 weeks now. We have a love/ hate relationship right now. She is incredibly cute and so smart! But, she is a puppy and loves to chew. The bitter apple spray has helped so much but she also likes to chew on my hands and those puppy teeth hurt! She loves to sit in Cameron's bouncy chair and the car seat (sometimes, while he is still in it!). She is growing so fast too!

Us - we are good and busy! Ivan has been really busy at work (especially since this week was tax free)! I am enjoying my maternity leave but it is going by way too fast. I have so much I wanted to get done before it was over and so far I have gotten nothing done! I supposed that is the point of maternity leave - to take care of your children and to get some rest.

I hope everyone is doing well (does anyone even read my blog?). Keep checking the kodakgallery site for pics.

¿Habla Inglés?

Yes, I speak English! I have been meaning to gripe about this for a while. I am tired of people asking if I speak English. I have been asked this every time we have been to the hospital since Jadyn was born! I have been asked it other times as well but the times in the hospital stick out the most. I realize that my last name is Escobar but come on. It's even worse when the person says it very slowly and loudly - DO... YOU.......SPEAK.....ENG-LISH?

Welcome Cameron Joseph!

Cameron was born on Friday, June 26th at 11:56am. He was 7lbs 110z and 20 in long.

On Thursday, I went to the doctor and I hadn't really progressed any further so we decided to set the date for me to be induced on Monday. At this point, I really didn't think the baby would come any sooner. But then at about 1:15 in the morning, my water broke. (I am very happy that we decided to put the plastic cover on our bed again). So we gathered our stuff and took Jadyn to our neighbors house. We got to the hospital at about 3:30. I had started to have some really good (i.e pretty painful) contractions. And in Stefanie style, I got sick while getting settled in the labor and delivery room. They gave me some Zofran, Nexium, and my epidural and then I felt great. I didn't need any pitocin because my contractions were progressing well on their own (I couldn't feel it so I was happy!). At about 11, I called the nurse to tell her that I thought I was ready. Sure enough, I was fully dialated so I just needed to wait for the midwife. Once the midwife got there, I pushed for maybe 20 minutes. The midwife delivered Cameron's head and shoulders and then Ivan got to pull the rest of him out and then cut the cord. Fortunately, my blood pressure was good during this delivery so I didn't need the magnesium. That really made such a difference in how I felt this time. Just like last time, this was a very calm and quiet delivery which makes for a great experience! We were really ready to leave the hospital by Sunday. Since I didn't need the magnesium, I felt pretty good right away so I was getting really stir crazy in the hospital room (Ivan was too!).

Jadyn was a little unsure of Cameron at first (until he found out that Cameron brought him some gifts). Then he was so excited, he wanted to see him, kiss him, and hold him. He was so gentle that it was really sweet. So far, he has been great with him. He loves to touch him and kiss him. Every morning, he wakes up and asks where is his baby Cameron. Then he wants to hold him and help feed him.

Now we are home and trying to get into our routine. Cameron is a great eater and therefore, a great pee-er and poop-er! We took him for his first doctor appt on Tuesday. He weighed 7lbs 7.5 oz and was 20 1/2 in long. She said that he was perfect (of course, we already think that!). He did look a little yellow so we took him to have his bilirubin level checked. It was good so we didn't need to worry about jaundice.

Today is the bris so I will let you know how that goes. I am sure it will be fine for Cameron. I am more worried about Daddy.

There are baby pics on our Kodak Gallery.

The phone is talking to me...

Jadyn was playing with the answering machine and was listening to an old message for me when he said:

"Mommy, I mean Stefanie. The phone is talking to you! The phone is talking to you. Stefanie. Stefane."

So, I picked up the phone to tell a friend how hilarious this was and he said (while grabbing my shirt), "No mommy, Stefanie, not that phone, this one (while pointing to the machine)."

Man, do I love that kid!

Funny

2 funny things about Jadyn...

1.  We were just talking about taking a nap and then we would go to the store. He said okay. He then told me in a very calm matter of fact voice, "but mommy, I am going to cry."  He then grabbed his blankie, walked upstairs, and climbed into bed.  I closed the door and sure enough, he cried - only for a minute or so. I now hear him snoring. He told me, didn't he?

2. If you ask him what he is going to do if someone messes with his brother, he says, "stomp them in the face." I am sure you can guess who taught him that - that's right, daddy! Isn't that just lovely!

Traumatized!

Today, Ivan was making dinner while Jadyn and I were vacuuming. The smoke alarm went off for a few seconds.  Jadyn was so freaked out about it! He was literally shaking. We calmed him down and showed him the alarm and told him that when the alarm smelled smoke, it would beep.  Jadyn repeated it over and over and was still shaking after 30 minutes or so.  He kept telling us that the alarm and the smoke scared him.  He kept pointing to it and telling us how loud it was. He did not want to leave either of us.  He asked me to hold him while he watched tv and then he asked me to lay down with him for a few minutes before bed (which we never do). My poor kid is traumatized.  I wouldn't be surprised if he wakes up in the middle of the night or when he first wakes up, if he talks about it again. I just hope for no nightmares!

On a different note, Jadyn cracked me up.  When I put him down for a nap, he was only in a pull up. After he fell asleep, I opened his door since we didn't have the monitor plugged in (it was still in the suit case) and I can barely hear him through the door. Needless to say, my child took off the pull up and was sleeping naked with his butt in the air.  Luckily, no accidents!!!  I was laughing so hard, I am surprised I didn't wake him up. I did take a picture though - there was no way I was going to miss that opportunity.

In the few days that Jadyn and Ivan went to Florida, Jadyn has changed so much.  I swear he is talking more and that he grew taller. As much as I missed my boys, I really did enjoy some "me" time.  It's been a long time since I ate dinner on the couch in front of the tv, or watched tv in bed before actually getting up, etc.

Well until next time...,

Busted Eye!

I am a bit exhausted today.  I fell asleep on the couch last night at about 10:30 and woke up at 1:30. For whatever reason, I couldn't fall back asleep until 5. Luckily, Jadyn didn't wake up until 8 so I did get some sleep.

Then this morning, Jadyn and I were getting ready to vacuum his room.  I was rolling the vacuum in the room and he got excited and ran into his room, somehow tripped, and cut his eye on his bed.  So, we took a trip to the ER.  The waiting room didn't look too busy so I was hoping it would be a quick trip.  Yeah right, the triage nurse said that there was only one person in front of us to get a room but that there were 11 patients in rooms waiting to see the one doctor that was there. Ugh! On top of it, I overheard some of the parents talking and it seems that they were concerned their kids had the swine flu. I am sure (and really hoping) they were just overreacting.

So it ended up being a 4 hour trip to the ER.  Jadyn was amazing.  He started getting antsy but I can't blame him at all.  After they put the numbing gel on it, he did not want them touching the bandaid so I was concerned how the stitches were going to go.  But they gave him some medicine to relax him and it really worked.  He didn't cry or complain at all while they did the stitches.  It turned out to be 8 stitches. As soon as we got in the car, he totally crashed.  He was so exhausted.  When he woke up, he was SUPER cranky. I can't blame him since the meds were probably wearing off. We decided to take a drive to calm down and then he played with his friend Austin and he has been great since.  I can already tell that it is going to be very black and blue tomorrow!

Well, let's hope tomorrow is a better day!

Here is the busted eye...

And waiting for the numbing gel to kick in...

No good...

at blogging.  Obviously I am not good at blogging.  But, I did add a link for our family photos.  Here is you warning - these are the good, the bad, and the ugly.  I am just posting all of our pics. So some (most, all, etc) may not be cute at all!!

Lack of pics

One more post for the night - I haven't decided where I am going to be posting pics.  Probably on kodak gallery but I just need to set that up.  But, it may be a while for new pics because our camera broke and is currently with Geek Squad.

Sick and Tired

So, it's been a long few days. On Sunday night, Jadyn had thrown up in his bed but no fever Monday morning.  He slept most of the day but then after nap had a fever. I called the doc since he was miserable, one of his tubes is blocked, and he hadn't eaten or drank a thing all day. I was sure he had an ear infection. Went to the ped, ears looked fine, strep test neg, flu test neg, but white blood count super high.  She was concerned and sent us directly to ER for more lab tests.  She said she was calling them and letting them know we were on the way. I assumed that would speed up the process - no not at all!!! We were there from 5:30 - 11:30. The ER doctor and nurse were not good peds people.  They expected my 2 year old to pee in a cup!  I understand that some 2 year olds are potty trained and mine is not but they really expected a kid who has only peed once the entire day to pee on command in a cup.  I knew and didn't like the alternative so we tried and nothing. They had to do the catheter. I thought Ivan was going to pass out. So, they also did a chest Xray, blood work, and 2 hours of fluids.  He really did need the fluids. Halfway during fluids, he broke out in hives all over. They gave some benadryl and it was better. So the result - nothing.  Everything looked okay, thank goodness.

On Tuesday, went back to ped.  She seemed happy with results and decided to wait a few days and see if he still has fever. Well Tuesday and Wednesday, his fever has been around the 102.3 mark under his arm and you are suppose to add 1.  Nice, 103 most of the time. The motrin is really working though. About 30 minutes after taking it, he is like a new kid. He gets a burst of energy and will eat a little bit.  But then, he totally crashes and is miserable and just wants to lay there. The good thing is that he is finally drinking.  He is crazy thirsty. I guess his body is trying really hard to get him hydrated. Tonight is no different.  He woke up about an hour ago burning up AND hives again! Of course, I didn't have a full dose of benadryl left and I am not getting it right now. Hopefully a third of a dose will help some! So, we will probably be back at the ped tomorrow.

To make things worse, Ivan woke up with a horrible migraine today. So, he called me home from work this morning.

We are all so tired! I just hope his fever breaks soon and that me and Ivan don't get whatever this is.

Hope this post makes sense...

It's a boy!

We found out today that we are having a boy! We are so excited for Jadyn to have a little brother. It also helps that we basically have everything we will need for a boy. The ultrasound showed that everything was looking good so far.  The baby was kicking so much while they did it.  It definitely makes it so much more real to see him.

Assertive but not mean

How do you teach your child to be assertive but not mean or rude? I don't want Jadyn to be mean or a rude obnoxious kid, but that at the same time, I don't want him to be a push over either. When we are at the park, he lets the other kids cut him in line, take the toy he was waiting for, etc. But at the same time, I don't want to try to change his personality.  He really is a sweet kid. His teachers say that he is the only boy in the class that doesn't bully the girls.  He (usually) is pretty good at sharing and making sure the other kids get their turn. He patiently waits in line until it's his turn (like at the water fountain or on a slide).

A little while back, we were at the mall playground and a kid pushed him out of the way of the slide.  He kept telling me that the boy pushed him.  My response was to push him back.  I know that isn't the right lesson either but what do you do? I am not the type of mom that will go to the kid (or the parent) and tell him to stop pushing. I think he needs to handle some things himself.
